Students at Hilo Intermediate School are provided an appropriate foundation and challenging education rooted in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Honors core courses are also available in each of the four disciplines of English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. We also believe that exposure to health, fitness, fine arts, music, college, career, technology, and STEM related classes are also important to our students' social, emotional, and academic development. Freedom to choose these courses based on individual interests is also valued here at Hilo Intermediate.
7th Grade Course Offerings:
A 7th grader’s program of study and course load at Hilo Intermediate School will consist of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and two (2) credits (cr) worth of elective/non-core classes. Provided it fits in their schedule, we ask that 7th grade students take a semester (or 0.5 cr) of Teen Health.

An 8th grader’s program of study and course load at Hilo Intermediate School will consist of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and up to two (2) credits (cr) worth of elective/non-core classes. Provided it fits in their schedule, we ask that 8th grade students take a semester (or 0.5 cr) of either PE 8/Physical Education B OR Physical Fitness.
